It seemed like forever ago that my friends and I bought our tickets to the Bruno Mars Moonshine Jungle Tour. Six months is a long time to have to wait and it seemed even longer as I was really praying for an interview!
With several attempts made to contact his people, I didn’t give up hope until the morning of his show. It was probably for the best, as I get giddy at the thought of speaking to him! The interview would have been more of a teenage love-struck drooling fan instead of the professional laid back conversations that you’re used to seeing.
August 3rd, 2014 finally came and my girlfriends and I were beyond excited to have a well deserved, kid/husband free, ladies night out!!! Bruno Mars’ playlist was pumping from the limo all the way there!!!
We arrived to the sold out show with just enough time to grab some cocktails, and find our seats when Nico and Vinz opened the night. The duo were very upbeat and had a great vibe for getting everyone pumped and ready to dance the night away! And that we did.
Bruno Mars started the show with his upbeat hits Moonshine, Nathalie and Treasure. It didn’t take long to be smitten by his huge dimples, beautiful smile and beyond amazing vocals. Not to mention his buff entourage he had to back him up with a range of brass instruments and all the works!!
Mars was wearing brown slacks, brown vest and a trade mark fedora hat. Midway he had changed into a blue vintage tropical shirt which on a regular guy doesn’t fly, but he could wear the worst of anything and his swagger and confidence would overpower any fashion faux pas!!
It didn’t take long for me to have to put my hair up as I was in for a serious dance workout. It was HOT in there and I couldn’t stop myself from moving! Even when he slowed it down with If I Knew, I couldn’t. I felt like I couldn’t stop my feet from moving!!
If I had to classify his style, it would definitely be one of his own! I did see a lot of James Brown (especially during Runaway Baby) stand out more than anything but flavours of reggae, R&B, pop, soul. There was even a moment when he was playing guitar with the band and it reminded me of a scene from Back to the Future when Marty McFly was rocking out on his guitar at prom.
I have been to a lot of concerts and I was blown away by his abilities! He played guitar, drums and man can this guy sing!! I didn’t know it was possible to sound that good live!!
Had I gotten the chance to interview him, I was hoping to find out more about ‘When I Was Your Man‘. He introduced that heart left number by saying “It was one of the hardest I have ever written.” You could definitely feel that from the energy as he belted it out!!
Just as I started to worry that I wouldn’t get to hear Gorilla, they came back for the encore and ended the night by leaving every woman in the place wondering what a gorilla makes love like, or maybe it was just me! Regardless, this was one amazing show and night that I will never forget!!!
Thank you Bruno Mars for a night I will never forget!! Please come back again as I would love the opportunity to sit down with you…and talk!!!
