Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – Are We Not Men? We Are Diva! | The Soundtrack to your Life

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – Are We Not Men? We Are Diva!

Artist: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Album: Are We Not Men? We Are Diva!
Genre: Punk Rock
First Impression: Gimme Gimme more
Rating: 5/5

Are you looking to have a dance party with diva-licious songs sprinkled with punk rock? Well let me be the first to tell you; Put on some dancing shoes that you wouldn’t mind trashing because it’s about to get messy in a good way!

You will find a fabulous cover from the movie Titanic by Celine Dion, “My Heart Will Go On”, for a little dose of Celtic! It’s an enlightening way for them to show they are more than just punk, they are purely talented, and undefined by genre or held to a definition… Love it!

These legendary punk rockers sing our top 10 guilty pleasures… You will find yourself singing Paula Abdul’s “Straight up” in your car with the windows down; (Don’t roll them up! Sing loud and proud for everyone to hear because it’s giving me chills sista-friend!! *finger point, clap, snap, snap*… “Do Do Ya Love Me”)

These are songs you can sing with your mom in the kitchen drinking beer, or in the pub singing karaoke, or even while making a mean pasta salad! Yeah, I DO THAT!

The Core PunkRock Supergroup, (a well deserved title as they have out-lasted any other boy-toy group out there by at least a decade!), is comprised of the loveliest man-babes, (my idols):

Spike Slawson of Swingin’ Utters – lead vocals
Fat Mike of NOFX – bass, backing vocals ( PS – he has a house you can rent in Vegas, comes with a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon)
Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters & Use For A Name – lead guitar, backing vocals
Joey Cape of Lagwagon – rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Dave Raun of Lagwagon – drums

They have special guests sub in when schedules clash so don’t be surprised if Brian Baker of Minor Threat and Bad Religion, Eric Melvin of NOFX, Warren Fitzgerald of The Vandals and Jay Bentley of Bad Religion, (just to name a few), come on-stage during a performance! Notably they have themed costumes for their shows & there’s never a dull moment with pun-filled comments and no shame in admitting when they screw up. I think theres a lot to be said about that!

If I could get an Amen and ask these fellas to play my wedding reception, well I’d be willing to do just about anything! (The editor removed my comment stating just what exactly I would be willing to do! G-RATED!)

Keep the Diva alive & never stop playing dress up!

#EWestMusic and tell us your thoughts on the album and how you would rate it!

Thanks for reading,

Daryl Uhrin

I was introduced to music through headphones on my mother’s womb. I was born with the lyrics of Rocket Man by Elton John on the tip of my tongue, and a strange urge to commit the Crime of the Century by Supertramp. I quickly found my heart belonged with the Punk/Metal/Hardcore scene. I found myself picking out the guitar, bass or drums for hours, being just amazed by the speed, talent and rawness they used to share their story, vision and experiences with us.

Favorite band: Gogol Bordello; no matter your age you will enjoy the diversity
